Letter from the President of Greece
3 October 2012
I read carefully the letter you addressed to me and I congratulate you for the noble sentiments which inspire your thinking about a peaceful world free from the nuclear threat. Greece, together with her partners in the European Union, supports the enhancement of disarmament measures as well as the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, particularly nuclear weapons.
Having ratified the Non-Proliferation Treaty, the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty, the Chemical Weapons Convention and the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention, my country supports the strengthening of the international legal framework for the prohibition of nuclear tests as well as the production of fissile materials, and firmly believes that progress towards this direction will ultimately lead to a future treaty for the abolition of nuclear weapons.
With esteem,Karolos Papoulias
President of the Hellenic Republic
