ICAN Australia is at the forefront of global efforts to outlaw and eliminate nuclear weapons. With more than 60 diverse partner organisations nationwide, we aim to raise public awareness about the catastrophic humanitarian harm caused by nuclear weapons and put nuclear disarmament squarely on the Australian political agenda.

Focus on Future Fund
The Future Fund, an Australian Government investment fund, currently invests $227 million in nuclear weapons companies. The Future Fund is using taxpayers' money to support an industry whose operations would be illegal if occurring in Australia, under the South Pacific Nuclear Free Zone. In our efforts to achieve a treaty banning nuclear weapons, we're calling on the Future Fund to divest from nuclear weapons companies. On the Future Fund Chair, David Gonski's 60th birthday, we held a divestment birthday party outside the Future Fund HQ in Melbourne. We celebrated the Fund's decisions to divest from landmines, cluster munitions and tobacco companies and festively demanded another sound decision to divest from nuclear weapons. Cake and balloons were delivered to the Future Fund staff but unfortunately none accepted our invitation to join the party.
On September 21, the International Day of Peace, ICAN campaigners created an amazing 1500-strong post-it mural on a busy Melbourne street. The public contributed their messages for disarmament their hopes for a peaceful world. Film by Takeshi Kondo.
